Scientific Explanations – Constructing an explanation: Energy diagram
A soccer player kicks a ball along the ground. As it rolls along, the ball slows down and eventually comes to a stop. In the steps below you will develop an explanation for why the ball slows down (after the kick).

The first step in constructing an explanation is to draw a diagram. In this case, we should draw a G/R energy diagram to describe the contact push/pull interaction between the ball and ground. (Later in the course you will learn about different diagrams that might be drawn in this first step.)
Below is the outline form of the G/R energy diagram. Select the correct element for each location.
