Recording Observations

Meaning of the Curriculum Icons — Observations

During this course you will be observe lots of demonstrations using equipment and computer simulations. Much of the time, you’ll see a movie, but sometimes your instructor may perform the demonstration or run the simulation.

You will usually be asked to record what you observe; for example, to write down what you see happening, or to sketch a graph that was recorded. It is important to be as precise as possible, such as not just recording that an object is moving, but also whether its speed is increasing, decreasing or staying approximately constant. Also, although it is difficult sometimes, try not to be influenced by what you think will happen and just record what you actually see.

Whenever you are being asked to record your observations in this class you will see this investigate icon, Investigate icon, in front of the instruction or question.

Be sure to discuss your observations with other students nearby before you record them, as people sometimes see things differently.
